How Do The Pads Work?

RadPads are a kind of ‘pocket pad’ as you insert a towel in the pad to gain extra absorbency.

Watch our video on the How do they work? page.

Can cloth pads really replace synthetic disposables??

The answer is a resounding YES!! RadPads have received hundreds of customer testimonials over the years from women who tell us they have “never looked back” after making the switch to cloth.

Sure, there is a lifestyle adjustment to be made – you now own your pads and wash and care for them so they can be at your service for many years to come.

We recommend that you start the switch to cloth at home – perhaps start using reusables as your night pad so you can get used to using them in the comfort of your home. Feel them out until you can establish a routine for how to change them, which are your favourite firm-fitting underwear to pair with the pads, how to store used pads until you are ready to soak and wash them. Then take them out in to the world as your menstrual or incontinence buddies, knowing you are making better use of our earth’s resources and better choices for your personal care.

Can I Use the Same Pads for Menstruation and Incontinence?

Our reusable cloth pads suit most people for menstrual use. They’re also suitable for mild to moderate urinary incontinence and as pants liners for everyday use. People experiencing changes in discharge during perimenopause – we’ve got you covered too!

Are there Pads for Men?

Yes! Our ManPads are for mild to moderate urinary leakage. They contain a nylon taffeta shower-proof inner along with 2 layers of absorbent hemp fleece, with a base layer of cotton corduroy which is worn against your underwear.
One size fits all, but they must be worn with firm-fitting underwear to keep the pad comfortably in place.

Are MyPads Hypoallergenic?

We don’t use rubber or plastic base on our women’s products as these can cause irritation. Our natural cloth pads are made from breathable fabrics (cotton and hemp fleece) so are cool in summer and warm in winter. They allow your skin to breathe too! No sweat!

How Do I Choose the Size?

You can choose firstly FLOW – Light, Medium, Heavy to match your needs. Then select SIZE which refers to the length of the pad – Regular or Extra Large (XL). Our Super/XL pad offers the same layers of absorbency as a Heavy Pad but in a longer pad.

See our sizing guide for more info on choosing pads to suit your flow.

You could find your way with our Starter Pack. This includes 4 pads of several sizes. Feel free to customise your Starter Pack by leaving a note on your size preferences at Checkout.

How Long Do MyPads Last?

Our reusable menstrual and incontinence pads last for many years if cared for appropriately. We often hear from women who’ve had their pads for up to 10 years and are still using them.

Tell me more about the fabrics you use…

Our cotton and hemp pads have a 100% cotton jersey top piece – the side worn against your body. The towel insert and remainder of the pad case are made from hemp fleece – a blend of organic cotton and hemp.

RadPads are made from natural fibres

Our Hemp Fleece Pads, including towel inserts, are made from hemp fleece only. We buy our hemp fleece from Hemp Wholesale Australia.

This fabric is manufactured in China, with the organic cotton (sourced from China and Turkey and India) added to create a soft fleece. The cotton has GOTS (Global Organic Textiles Standard) certification.

Hemp would just have to be the best fibre choice for the planet! It is grown chemical free (hence rarely certified organic), in growing it enriches rather than harms soil and soil life, it saves water compared to water-hungry cotton AND produces 2-4 times more fibre/area than other natural fibres.

Hemp offers superior strength and durability – it’s described as 25 times more durable than cotton.

The natural hemp fleece is washed to give it a lighter and more even colour than the raw fabric. It is classified as semi-bleached, using oxygen rather than chlorine.

The following info on the dyeing of our red hemp fleece is provided on HempWA’s website:

“The dyes used on our fabrics are all Procion low impact, fibre reactive dyes. These dyes are nontoxic, safe, and eco-friendly. They require only low temperature water processing and only salt and soda ash as auxiliary agents. They yield excellent results, especially on natural fibers, in which the dyed fabrics have vibrant hues and superb colorfastness. Many of our white or off-white “natural” colour fabrics have been semi-bleached using oxygen instead of harsh chlorine”.

Is There Anything Else I Need To Know?

Changing pads at home: A small, lidded bucket in the bathroom at home can be a handy place to soak used pads in cold water until you are ready to wash them.

Place the pads blood-side down in the water so the menstrual blood, denser than water, can sink to the bottom of the bucket.

Your pads can then go in the regular wash just as your underwear do.

Used pads can be folded into themselves and snap shut until you get them in to a cold water soak at home.

Changing pads when you’re out and about: A wet/dry bag or purse is really handy for cloth pad users. This allows you to carry your clean cloth pads in your handbag or schoolbag and place used pads in the wet side of the purse until you get home. Our cloth pads fold neatly into a compact bundle you can snap shut with the snap studs.
